About the Center
Introducing the Center
The establishment of the Academic Studies Center holds significant importance by equipping students and scholars with essential skills in various academic fields within the departments of the College of Arts and Humanities. This includes political studies, history, archaeology, African studies, Latin American studies, and more. It is necessary to raise general societal awareness, both politically and intellectually, and develop the individual capacities of specialized students in these fields amidst the era of globalization and evolving concepts influenced by current conflicts impacting communities and populations.
The center aims to lay the foundations of academic thinking among students and young researchers in various academic disciplines required in the job market. It also fosters scientific and methodological thinking among researchers and students, providing them with proper scientific and intellectual preparation in fields such as historical, archaeological, and political sciences.
Furthermore, the center seeks to introduce and familiarize people with the African continent, its peoples, and civilizations. It emphasizes that African studies are a global project that transcends geography and regional boundaries. The continent's diverse mix of ethnicities and races interact and face several challenges, including Western economic, political, religious, and intellectual hegemony, as well as forced and voluntary migrations. Understanding and comprehending these processes necessitate the inclusion of Africa as a vital element in the field of academic studies. Currently, the center consists of four academic units: Political Studies Unit, Historical and Archaeological Studies Unit, African Studies Unit, and Latin American Studies Unit. These units represent the initial stage of establishing the academic center, with future plans to expand and add more academic units.
