An overview of the department

The Department of Journalism for Postgraduate Studies and Research is one of the departments of postgraduate studies at the College of Mass Communication. The department provides researchers in the field of media with the opportunity to obtain master's and doctoral degrees in various fields of journalism, whether printed or electronic. These fields are based on creativity and in-depth thinking in media and journalism issues and their relationship to community issues and the study of the correlation between them. The department seeks to work on refining the talents of students academically and practically through academic courses and activities that benefit from and intermarry and take into account the causes of modern technology and digital communication with its commitment to the theoretical foundation that includes communication theories, ethics of journalism and media, its legislation, and the impact of journalism and media in society.

Looking forward to a distinguished pioneering role in the use of material, human and technical capabilities to deepen the cultural awareness of the internal and external university community and keep pace with this development in information and communication technology and what these developments have created and the community's need for studies and research whose results are beneficial to society and provide solutions to some phenomena. By following a tight and disciplined scientific research methodology based on adherence to the ethics of scientific research.

Department's Mission is to prepare distinguished competencies in the field of journalism, whether printed or electronic, and scientific and academic competencies in journalism that are aware of their social and national responsibilities, and activate the ethics and codes of honor of the journalism profession, the legislation regulating it, and a balance between rights and duties.

The department aims to prepare and qualify researchers to work in modern media and in the fields of print and electronic journalism and various institutions, by providing them with scientific backgrounds, expertise and technical skills appropriate to qualify them for work, excellence, creativity and innovation in these fields.

  • Working in press and media institutions, media research centers, institutions, companies, and advertising and marketing agencies.
  • Teaching media materials in media colleges and departments and media training centers.
  • Working in the information offices of the graduate's country outside the borders of the state.
