About the Unit

Unit Overview:

In the era of digitization and immense technological advancements in the past two decades, the process of statistics, both descriptive and inferential, has become crucial. Statistics involves transforming information into numbers and then analyzing them to derive rates, ratios, and results. It is of utmost importance to provide decision-makers with a comprehensive and clear map that enables them to enhance human resource capabilities and determine the necessary methodology for report preparation. Consequently, statistics has become a dynamic process and a vital component of success and keeping up with the times, especially in major academic institutions.

In a world where everything revolves around numbers, the demand for data and the ability to translate it into meaningful insights for effective planning in both general and academic institutions has become highly significant. Within this context, statistics and operations research, as interdisciplinary sciences, are influenced by and have an impact on other fields through continuous development driven by contemporary technological advancements. Statistical methods, theories, and tactics play a prominent role in other sciences, serving as a foundation for their evolution and the development of simpler and faster practical applications. The field of statistics and operations research gains special importance through its distinguished role in making optimal decisions for problems arising in various fields, including industry, media, planning, management, economics, medicine, commerce, transportation, and communication, among others. Furthermore, it provides statistical consultation for applied research projects within and outside the university, whether in the research design phase or in data analysis and result interpretation, while creating new mechanisms for collaborative work with communities based on accurate statistical information.

It is essential for all individuals working in the statistics management to possess expertise in both communication and statistics, given the importance of effective communication skills and the necessary technical techniques for receiving and transmitting statistical and technical data, following a sound mechanism and handling them in a media-savvy manner. This is done with the aim of identifying the challenges facing the university and dealing with them scientifically, as well as foreseeing the future based on these challenges.

The university believes in the value of making informed decisions that serve the students' interests and are based on data. It acknowledges that statistics is a key element in any administrative or institutional work, regardless of the field in which it is applied, to achieve sound planning and make accurate decisions. This realization led to the establishment of the Statistics Management to serve as a guiding light for all decision-makers within and outside the university.

As I ask Allah for assistance in bearing its consequences and delivering exceptional performance in this important endeavor, I express my appreciation to the university administration for entrusting me with this responsibility. I firmly believe that success in this endeavor cannot be achieved without the support of all the collaborating departments and divisions. What we have learned within the walls of the University of Minnesota is that teamwork is the elixir of success. Therefore, I urge all colleges, units, and departments to collaborate with the Statistics Management in accomplishing their assigned tasks. It is through the collective efforts of each one of us in our respective roles that we will succeed and thrive.
