Department head’s speech

The Department of Digital Journalism for postgraduate studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota is one of the most important departments concerned with postgraduate studies and research in journalism. The department seeks to provide an opportunity for students and those interested in continuing the journey of their predecessors in searching for answers to numerous research problems related to journalism. We strive to reach findings that benefit societies and can be generalized and applied to solve many research issues, especially in light of the global journalism crisis and its complexities. This is also in line with the rapid technological developments, changing reading patterns, and audience dynamics. We work to find solutions to create a state of balance, professionalism, and credibility, away from the rush for scoops at the expense of professional ethics, by activating self-regulation, which is the conscience. The department aims to graduate a generation of distinguished academics capable of serving their nations and communities and providing the public with news, information, analysis, and explanations. The department could not have achieved this without its roster of top-tier doctors from around the world, its wealth of profound and rigorous scientific courses, and its adherence to a meticulous scientific methodology. It operates under a college led by an esteemed scholar and expert, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Wazzan, a Vice-Dean of high academic stature, Prof. Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Wahati, and a distinguished scholar and professor as Director of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Hanan Obaid, along with a capable and skilled College and Training Director, Dr. Badia Abdulqader. We are all proud and honored to work under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Walid Al-Maneese, the University President, and His Excellency Dr. Omar Ahmed Al-Maqrami, the Vice President of the University.
