Head of Department's Speech
Man is a creation of Allah, therefore, contributing to their development and progress is an act of obedience to God. Islamic law has always shown numerous methodologies that encourage the development and improvement of life in general, which is known as the concept of the development process itself, which aims to achieve sufficiency and efficiency in the Islamic society. Islamic law also urges the development of the individual on a value and scientific level through correct upbringing and instilling in them the principles of justice, integrity, and good character so that they can play an active role in society. Islam has focused on the human being as the axis of the development process, fighting all negative concepts that hinder the achievement of development in society.
Development in Islam is based on a number of determinants, such as the optimal use of human resources, including caring for minds and ensuring their investment in a way that supports development and its means and strengthens its determinants. This paves the way for these minds to achieve development in various fields of life, which benefits the individual, society, and the Islamic nation as a whole. Preserving development also reinforces the protection of the five necessities that the pure Sharia has urged, which include the soul, money, religion, mind, and honor.
Development is one of the branches of social sciences that studies society and the individual's relationship to it and to other diverse sciences such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, economics, and social geography from the perspective related to humans.
Studies in development specialization emerged as an academic branch in the early nineteenth century due to the growing colors of turmoil and anxiety around the world and the worsening economic conditions and political strife in many regions around the world. Concerns about the economic prospects of the third world after World War II increased, so development studies emerged to address the flaws of anxiety and turmoil and the need to integrate ideas into politics and economics. It is not possible to rely on a single specialization to achieve these treatments, so it was necessary to resort to development studies that are related to the social factors surrounding the individual and study the issues of developing countries, such as social and economic development.
In the midst of the Islamic University in the State of Minnesota's pursuit to achieve its goals in spreading knowledge that benefits the Muslim individual in all parts of the world and contributes with him in achieving one of the goals of life and its requirements for the Muslim individual, which is seeking knowledge and acquiring knowledge, the idea of establishing the College of Development Studies and Crisis Management was born. It also came in response to the needs of the labor market in the Islamic world, after numerous studies on activities and organizations related to development revealed a shortage of human resources specialized in development and the need for these organizations and institutions to work on qualifying their employees to cover their real needs for qualified specialists and researchers who work in these development institutions and organizations.
We will be with you in the Department of Development Studies to achieve these goals, God willing, and we promise you to make all efforts to succeed in providing the members of this young college with modern sciences in its various specializations, foremost of which are development studies. May Allah grant us success in achieving the purpose of life, as stated in the verse: "Say: My prayer and my worship, my life and my death, are for Allah, Lord of the worlds."
