About the Department
The Department of Islamic Economics is one of the main departments in the College of Economics and Business Administration at the Islamic University of Minnesota. The university has initiated the opening of this department in an effort to respond to the requirements of the labor market, and to provide qualified scientific cadres, who can contribute to finding solutions to the economic problems that economic establishments suffer from, and improving their performance to ensure their continuity, growth, development and raising their efficiency.

Achieving excellence in teaching Islamic economics necessary to prepare graduates to contribute to economic and social development, and conducting original research directed towards dealing with various economic issues.
Department Goals
Knowledge and understanding of key concepts, theoretical points of view, and empirical findings in the field of economics and business studies
Analysis of problems and phenomena, from the perspective of economic and commercial management
Generate hypothesis and/or interpretations of business problems and phenomena based on models and economic theory, and evaluate the consequences of recommended policy proposals
Understanding, internalizing and appreciating moral values, comparing different values, resolving conflicts between them, and handling issues in a responsible socially manner. In short, it recognizes the role of ethics in business and economic decision-making
Understand and apply basic and complex research methods in economics, including data analysis and evaluation

Academic Nature of the Major
The program aims to prepare graduates specializing in Islamic economics.
Graduate Work Areas
- Economics: data collection, research analysis, forecasting, planning, consulting, and policy advice roles in many industries including private sector consulting and research firms, retail, insurance, transportation, health care, national and local government agencies, utilities, or labor unions.
- Banking and financial services: financial analysis, commercial banking, mortgage and lending services, credit analysis, branch management, securities sales and research.
- Insurance: claims, underwriting, risk management, sales, loss control.
- Education: teaching, research and administrative roles in colleges, universities and secondary schools.
