Dr. Siham Abdelbaqi Muhammad Hamid

Department head’s speech

The importance of the science of history is evident and embodied in its ability to understand the past, reach inferences and draw analyzes that contribute to building a prosperous future for nations and peoples in all human societies. This is why he ranks at the top of the branches of knowledge due to his ability to solve present and contemporary problems by analogy with their counterparts or by approaching them with past events. It has become humanity's wealth of knowledge accumulated over successive ages and periods of time, the inspiration for the human mind, and the reason for the progress of various sciences, and the advancement and prosperity of nations and civilizations.

The curricula of the Department of History and Islamic Civilization in the College of Arts and Human Sciences at the Islamic University of Minnesota represent a distinct blend of knowledge that is indispensable to the student. It delves into the depths of history in the pre-Islamic era, passing through the beginning of Islam and the building of the state in the Prophet’s era, and the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and later ones. It witnesses the formation of Islamic mini-states and capitals, delves into the history of man-made and divine religions, compares and contrasts them, and goes on to review systems of government, administration, politics, economics, and social systems. It also sheds light on the contributions of Muslim scholars and their role in establishing the sciences from which Europe derived science and knowledge, and on the Western view of the great contributions of Islam and Muslims to knowledge as reflected in European sources and in the writings of Orientalists with their different personal inclinations and inclinations. Leading to the study of contemporary issues in Islamic countries.

Therefore, history is a turbulent sea in which the past and the present intersect to form the experiences and knowledge of the future. Which helps to anticipate the future and reformulate it to suit the requirements of the times and its developments with an original analytical approach. It contributes to the formation of a graduate capable of engaging in the field of teaching in schools and academic institutions, and a specialized researcher in centers of historical research and studies, in addition to working as a tourist guide in archaeological sites and a general supervisor in museums and archaeological sites...etc.

Congratulations to our students for the existence of this blessed department, which enables them to study in-depth history, civilization, and authentic Islamic culture and helps them to form an analytical and critical personality and to understand their current issues. Shaping their future, and reproducing leadership figures who restore the glories of the Islamic nation and cling to its identity, without which there is no glory, no humiliation, and no hope except in recalling its past and history. So take refuge in history, the youth of the nation, and study it to prevail today and tomorrow.
