An overview of the department
The Department of Family Counseling is one of the vital departments within the College of Educational Sciences at the Islamic University of Minnesota. It is dedicated to preparing specialized professionals capable of addressing family, educational, and psychological issues through a sound scientific approach grounded in the principles of Islamic Sharia and modern educational standards.
The department aims to enable students to understand the nature and dynamics of the family and to professionally and ethically address the social and psychological challenges faced by families in the modern era.

The vision of the department is to be an academic and professional leader in preparing family and educational counselors locally and internationally, guided by Islamic and human values that contribute to building cohesive families and a balanced society.
Department Mission
The mission of the department is to qualify specialists in family counseling who possess strong communication, analytical, and assessment skills, as well as the ability to provide psychological and social support to individuals and families. This is achieved through comprehensive academic and training programs that combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience and contribute to enhancing the quality of family and community life.
Department Goals
Rehabilitation of students and empower them with knowledge and skills and keeping pace with the scientific and technological development in family counseling
Developing research and investigation skills for authentic topics and issues in the fields of family counseling
Contributing to provide the student with knowledge about the foundations of family counseling
Participating in the study of educational problems and work to treat them
The student acquires basic information related to family jurisprudence and transactions and benefit from them in the applications of family practices and transactions related to counseling and guidance
Acquisition of basic skills and information regarding the foundations and theories of psychological and family guidance and counseling
Acquisition of necessary information on the foundations, principles and laws of psychological growth processes and stages, and advanced theories that serve the different stages of growth
Recognizing and training in psychological and family measurement and evaluation processes
Acquisition of basic information and skills related to multiple communication processes
Recognizing the foundations and aspects of mental disorder processes in their various types and forms
