Deanship of Graduate Studies Discusses PhD Research Proposal

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific methodology and promote rigorous academic research, the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota – Main Center, represented by the College of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, organized on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, an academic seminar to discuss the doctoral research proposal submitted by researcher Fatima Abdulrasheed.

The proposal, titled: "The Effect of Semantic Differences between Arabic and Indonesian on Vocabulary Acquisition among Learners of Arabic as a Foreign Language: A Comparative Applied Study,” addresses an important topic in comparative studies, highlighting its value in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers and its contribution to applied linguistic research.

The seminar was chaired by Dr. Osama Abdulrahman Abu Zaid, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, with a distinguished committee of academics, including Assistant Professor Dr. Sahar Talaat Al-Samadi, Dr. Yusri Hassan, Dr. Nadia Abu Awda, Dr. Saadi Abu Sini, Dr. Ahmed Adel, and Dr. Mahmoud Jalal. The committee provided in-depth scholarly feedback and methodological guidance aimed at refining and enhancing the proposed study.

The session was held via Zoom at 9:00 p.m. Makkah time, with the participation of prominent academics from within and outside the university, reflecting growing interest in Arabic language research and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.

This seminar is part of a series of academic activities organized by the Deanship of Graduate Studies to support postgraduate students, foster a culture of scientific research, and improve the quality of academic output in accordance with established scholarly standards.
