About the Council
The Council of the Islamic University of Minnesota, which is chaired by His Eminence Professor Walid bin Idris Al-Menisi, is the highest administrative body in the university. This is to achieve the purpose for which the university was established, and to approve the establishment of branches and the subsequent establishment of new colleges and departments.
The Council of the Islamic University of Minnesota is part of the large system of the university, which always seeks to contribute to achieving the university goals for which this university was established.
Council Goals
- Upgrading the strategic plans of the university by benefiting from the experiences of international universities.
- Developing the educational and research environment and qualifying academic institutions in order to develop capacities and compete strongly in the fields of scientific research at the global level in all disciplines.
- Work to keep pace with the aspirations of the university and achieve a pioneering model for education.
- Deepening and documenting aspects of cooperation between the university and other educational bodies at the global level.
- Supporting the use of modern technologies in all academic, research and administrative fields, in a manner appropriate to strengthening the distance education system.
- Striving to apply the best recognized international standards for academic accreditation, and working to accredit all university programs to be within the Association of Arab and Islamic Universities.
Council Powers
- The University Council is considered the most ancient administrative authority in the university, as it supervises all university affairs and is responsible for drawing and evaluating the general policy that follows it, and proposing measures to ensure its advancement.
- Approving the establishment of university branches around the world according to specific controls and in line with the university system.
- Cancellation of branches that do not comply with the university system and its internal regulations.
- Suggesting the establishment of colleges, departments and research centers.
- Approval of scientific disciplines and postgraduate programs.
- Granting academic degrees to university graduates.
- Awarding honorary doctorates.
- Senior administrative appointments at the university.
- Determine the details of the academic calendar, according to the general framework for the beginning and end of the study, and specify the holidays that occur during it.
- Approving the curricula, study plans, textbooks, and references, based on the proposal of the Colleges Council and the specialized committees.
- Exemption from fees and approving free scholarships for everyone the council deems deserving.
- Adopting or amending the university's bylaws.
- Deciding on the appointment of faculty members based on the recommendation of the Scientific Council.
- Supervising the preparation of the proposed budget for the university, and enacting the necessary bylaws for the functioning of work within it in all academic, research and administrative aspects.
- Accepting donations, donations, bequests, etc., provided that they do not conflict with the basic purpose for which the university was established.
- Considering the subjects referred to him by the Minnesota State Office of Higher Education.
