College of Computing and Information Technology Council Holds Extraordinary Meeting

The College of Computing and Information Technology Council held an extraordinary meeting chaired by the Dean, Dr. Muneer Abdulbari Abdulfattah, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Dean welcomed the attendees, especially the new members of the College Council, before moving on to discuss the agenda items. The most prominent of these was reviewing the preparations for the College's conference and the plan to complete and activate the Computer Science department.

The attendees also discussed the necessary requirements for establishing a training center affiliated with the College, and the training programs that will be implemented for students inside and outside the College. The report evaluating the performance of the department vice-chairpersons for the previous period was discussed, as well as the need for the departments to develop their plans.

The Council approved the appointment of new vice-chairpersons for the departments: Dr. Hani Mohammed Al-Houbi as Vice-Chairman of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department, Dr. Samah Mohamed Hassan as Vice-Chairman of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Abdullah Abdulkarim Al-Warikat as Vice-Chairman of the Information Systems Department, and Dr. Samar Yamani Al-Salman as Vice-Chairman of the Cybersecurity and Networks Department.

The Council also discussed the preparation for completing the summer semester and the arrangement for the final exams, in addition to the planning for the upcoming first academic semester in terms of schedules and courses, with the aim of avoiding the obstacles faced by the College in previous semesters. The plan for implementing the first technical camp was also reviewed, and new ideas were proposed in this framework.

On Monday, April 29, 2024, a meeting was held between the College Council, chaired by the Dean, Professor Dr. Muneer Abdulbari Abdulfattah, and Dr. Hanan Mukhtar, Director of External Relations and International Cooperation.

The meeting was to discuss the preparations for the first conference of the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology under the slogan "Digital Transformation in the Era of Artificial Intelligence". The conference themes were announced, covering the technical and ethical challenges and risks of artificial intelligence, the reality of digital transformation in the business sector, applications of artificial intelligence in education, the impact of artificial intelligence on digital transformation in the social sciences and humanities, and future trends and threats in the health sciences.

The outcomes of the meeting were also announced, including the distribution of roles to the conference organizing committees and the completion of the necessary official correspondences to finalize the conference proceedings. The meeting was attended by faculty members in addition to the Dean and Dr. Hanan Mukhtar.
