College of Computing Holds Regular Council Meeting

The College of Computing and Information Technology at the Islamic University of Minnesota – Main Center, held its regular council meeting on Monday evening, August 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muneer Abdulbari, with the participation of the college’s vice-deans, department chairs, and a number of administrative officials.
The Dean opened the session by welcoming the attendees and stressing that the main objective of the meeting was to evaluate the educational process at mid-semester, review overall academic performance, and discuss course quality, examination mechanisms, and academic advising, in order to enhance educational outcomes and achieve academic excellence.
The council discussed several key topics, including adherence to the academic plan and ensuring clarity of course content, challenges faced by first-year students in practical courses and English, exam preparation in alignment with learning outcomes, activation of academic advising to follow up with new students and support low-performing ones, coordination among departments to unify course content before the start of the semester, prompt handling of administrative remarks and complaints, and monitoring faculty attendance and punctuality to maintain the continuity of the teaching process.
- The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably:
- Unifying course content before the beginning of the semester.
- Adopting unified exam guidelines in coordination with the control office.
- Systematically activating academic advising.
- Starting early in preparing the schedule for the second semester.
- Speeding up the disbursement of faculty financial entitlements.
Requiring the student affairs office to handle students’ issues through department chairs first, ensuring a balanced and dialogue-based educational environment.
The council ended its session at 11:00 p.m. in a positive atmosphere that reflected the commitment of all parties to enhancing the quality of education and strengthening the college’s academic standing.
In addition to the Dean, the meeting was attended by the College Vice-Dean, Dr. Salah Alawi (Chair of the Department of Networks and Cybersecurity), Dr. Saleh Al-Riyashi (Chair of the Information Systems Department), Dr. Bushra Abrar (Chair of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department), Dr. Mohammed Rashidi (Deputy Chair of the Information Systems Department), and Ms. Hanadi Abdullah (Administrative Affairs Officer).
