Meeting of Dean of Computer College and Information Technology
Doctor Muneer Abdulbari Abdulfattah, Dean of the College of Computers and Information Technology at the Islamic University of Minnesota, held a joint meeting with the college council and some faculty members, attended by the Vice Dean and administrative affairs, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 10:00 PM Mecca time.
The dean opened the meeting by welcoming everyone before addressing the topics on the agenda, with a focus on organizing schedules. Discussions included the systems used for self-study and scheduling, as well as the college council's decision regarding schedule organization based on student numbers. Challenges faced by Dr. Mohammed Al-Samkari and Dr. Saleh Al-Riyashi regarding student registration in courses with low enrollment were also discussed.
One of the prominent topics covered was the details of the educational process. The dean explained these details to all members and assigned tasks. He emphasized the importance of effective communication with new students, proper guidance, and maintaining patience when dealing with student issues. He noted the need to consider geographical circumstances that affect student attendance and stressed the importance of follow-up and support for students facing challenges in their specializations or personal situations, highlighting the necessity of continuous support through weekly and monthly reports.
The discussion also addressed supporting graduate students, particularly the challenges faced by students from various disciplines such as pharmacy and Islamic studies in adapting to the college's specializations. Solutions proposed included offering foundation courses to prepare new students and a high diploma program as a preliminary step before pursuing a master's degree.
Regarding schedule organization and curriculum, the dean directed the establishment of a clear plan to ensure that course materials align with student needs, calling for the adoption of suitable curricula and references to enhance the quality of education. Suggestions were made to regularly update educational resources, encourage collaboration between faculty and students through interactive workshops, and periodically review and evaluate the educational process to ensure continuous improvement.
Additionally, the College of Computers and Information Technology council held another meeting on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10:00 PM to launch the second semester, which began on the same day. The meeting discussed the current situation in the college, including the number of students and faculty members, and addressed issues that caused delays in preparing the semester schedules, emphasizing the need to assign schedule preparation to department heads without interference from administrative and technical units.
