College of Media Dean Emphasizes Importance of Developing Academic Programs

The Dean of the College of Media at the Islamic University of Minnesota emphasized the importance of developing academic programs to keep pace with the rapid changes in the local and global media landscape. He stressed that these plans should reflect a spirit of innovation and quality, meet the needs of the job market, and contribute to preparing specialized media professionals capable of influencing and competing.

This came during the regular meeting of the Curriculum and Study Plans Committee at the College of Media, which was held under his chairmanship on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2025, to discuss activating graduate programs in the college's departments and approving their study plans, with the attendance of department heads and several faculty members.

The meeting discussed the mechanisms for launching master's and doctoral programs in four specialized departments: the Department of Digital Media, the Department of Journalism and Publishing, the Department of International Public Relations, and the Department of Media Production for Radio and Television. Proposed study plans for each program were reviewed, along with admission requirements, determination of credit hours, mandatory and elective courses, in addition to requirements for scientific theses and dissertations.

The meeting witnessed a rich academic discussion on course details, as well as the approved academic standards. Each program will be reviewed finally, and recommendations will be submitted to the college council in its upcoming session.

This meeting comes as part of the College of Media's efforts to enhance its academic and research status and to offer quality graduate programs that contribute to supporting applied research and addressing media and development issues in the community.
