Deanship of Graduate Studies Holds Doctoral Defense on Impact of Foreign Remittances on Syrian Economy
The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Islamic University of Minnesota – Main Center, hosted on Saturday evening, November 29, 2025, an academic defense of the doctoral dissertation submitted by researcher Taiseer Mohammed Hassan Sultan from the Syrian Arab Republic. The defense was held virtually via Zoom within the Department of Economics and Islamic Banking at the College of Economics and Business Administration, in a scholarly atmosphere marked by rigor and depth.
The dissertation, entitled “Foreign Remittances: Their Jurisprudential Adaptation and Impact on the National Economy – The Syrian Economy as a Model,” addressed a contemporary economic issue with direct implications for financial and living conditions. The study offered an analytical approach integrating Islamic jurisprudential foundations with modern economic realities.
The examination committee included a group of distinguished academics. The dissertation was supervised and approved by Dr. Zayed Nawaf Al-Duwairi, Head of the Department of Economics and Islamic Banking at the Islamic University of Minnesota. Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Mohammed, faculty member at the university, participated as an internal examiner, while Dr. Fathi Ahmed Adam, faculty member at Al-Jouf University in Saudi Arabia, participated as an external examiner.
The defense reflected a high academic standard, with the committee commending the researcher’s efforts and the dissertation’s methodological rigor and scholarly contribution in linking Islamic jurisprudence with contemporary economic realities through the Syrian economic model.
At the conclusion of the defense, the committee presented its academic observations and recommendations aimed at enhancing the research value of the dissertation.
