PhD Dissertation Defense on Criminal Investigations and Human Rights

The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Main Center of the Islamic University of Minnesota held a PhD dissertation defense on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. (Makkah time), via Zoom. The dissertation, titled “Criminal Investigations Between the Requirements of Justice and the Imperatives of Human Rights - An Analytical Study,” was submitted by researcher Ayedh Ghanem Al-Dosari from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The dissertation addressed the challenge of balancing criminal justice requirements with human rights safeguards, through a scientific analysis of procedures related to criminal investigations and the contemporary legal challenges they pose. It also highlighted regulatory frameworks that ensure the protection of rights without compromising the effectiveness of justice, underscoring the topic’s significance and relevance in modern legal studies.

The examination committee consisted of distinguished legal scholars, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Shoaib Abdelmasoud, Head of the Law Department at the Islamic University of Minnesota, with Professor Dr. Sofian Abdelli serving as supervisor and rapporteur, Associate Professor Dr. Fouad Ghajati as internal examiner, and Dr. Mahmoud Nabil as external examiner. Additionally, Dr. Ghada Abdelkarim Mohamed Gad, former Assistant Professor of Civil Law at Unaizah Private Colleges, Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Najjar, Head of the Department of Contemporary Issues and Human Rights at Rashid University, participated as external examiners.

The committee enriched the defense with precise academic feedback and methodological guidance, addressing the dissertation’s scholarly structure, analytical approach, and contribution to advancing legal studies related to human rights and criminal procedures. They praised the researcher’s thorough understanding and in-depth treatment of the subject.

At the conclusion of the defense, the committee commended the academic quality of the dissertation and the significance of its findings, highlighting its value as a notable addition to the legal literature. They also affirmed the role of the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research in supporting academic research and encouraging specialized studies addressing issues of justice and human rights with a balanced scholarly perspective.
