The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Islamic University in Minnesota (Main Center) witnessed, on the evening of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the defense of the doctoral dissertation submitted by researcher Omar Mohammed Ahmed Rizq Allah, from the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, titled: "Metapoetic Discourse in the Poetry of Mohamed Ibrahim Yaqoub: An Analytical Critical Study."
The defense took place via the Zoom platform at 9:00 PM Mecca time, in the presence of a scientific committee comprising: Dr. Osama Abdulrahman Abu Zaid - Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature (Chair), Dr. Omar Saleh Shqairat - Faculty Member at the university (Supervisor), Dr. Mai Khaled Beklezi - Faculty Member at the university (Internal Examiner), and Dr. Nihal Abdullah Gharaibeh - Faculty Member at the university (External Examiner).
During the session, the researcher presented a concise overview of his thesis, addressing its theoretical framework and analytical tools. He explored the concept of "metapoetics" and its mechanisms within the poetic experience of the poet Mohammed Ibrahim Yaqoub, in an attempt to deconstruct the structure of poetic discourse and reveal the text's self-awareness through an in-depth critical reading.
The discussion witnessed rich academic interaction, as the committee offered a number of methodological observations and scientific recommendations aimed at deepening the critical approach and enhancing the analytical structure of the dissertation, thereby strengthening its scholarly value and contribution to contemporary critical studies.
This defense comes within the context of the efforts exerted by the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research to promote rigorous academic research and support graduate students in producing advanced research that enriches literary and critical studies.
