Fatima Al-Wahsh Emphasizes Importance of Class Schedules

Doctor Fatima Jumaa Al-Wahsh, Head of the Islamic Studies Department, held a meeting with faculty members of the department on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 10:00 PM Mecca time. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming second semester, during which Dr. Al-Wahsh welcomed the attendees, especially the new members.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Wahsh stressed the necessity for faculty members to adhere to their scheduled classes, emphasizing that postponements should only occur in extreme cases, and that she should be informed in advance. She also highlighted the importance of conducting makeup classes and not delaying them by more than a week.

Dr. Al-Wahsh addressed several topics related to the educational process, including the submission of course materials according to the provided template and dividing the curriculum into 12 lectures for each semester. She encouraged the use of modern methods in presenting material and the importance of responding to all student inquiries.

Regarding the grading system, Dr. Al-Wahsh explained that the grades would be distributed as follows: 20 for the midterm exam, 20 for attendance, 20 for assignments, and 40 for the final exam. She noted that tracking attendance and absences is the responsibility of the department secretary and course assistants, not the faculty members.

Additionally, Dr. Al-Wahsh emphasized the need to alleviate the burden on students regarding assignments, suggesting that they should consist of post-lecture questions or research submissions due before February 13, 2024. She also indicated that exams should be comprehensive and balanced to accommodate all students.

In closing, Dr. Al-Wahsh reiterated the importance of avoiding direct communication with students and insisted that all communication should go through the department head or the department secretary.

The meeting was attended by faculty members of the department, as well as the department secretary, Mr. Adam Amadou Sal, and the Administrative Affairs Officer for the College of Islamic Studies, Ms. Anisa Ahmed Othman Al-Zekri.
