Training and Development Center Organizes Course on "Morisco Period"

The Training and Development Center and Community Programs at the Islamic University of Minnesota organized a course titled " Morisco Period," presented by Professor Abdulbaqi Al-Qattan, a faculty member in the College of Arts and Humanities and the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Arts and Humanities.

The course included two lectures, each lasting two hours, with the first lecture held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, and the second lecture on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The course primarily targeted students from the College of Arts, as well as students from other colleges and those outside the university, aiming to enhance knowledge about the Morisco period and to explore the cultural achievements of the Moriscos in Andalusia.

The two lectures covered various topics, including the situation of the Moriscos after the fall of Granada, Morisco heritage in Islamic jurisprudence, prose and poetry, travel literature, and the art of jihad with cannons.

The organizers of the course hope to open new horizons for students to register topics related to the Moriscos and encourage them to highlight Morisco heritage, as well as to establish a journal or publish research papers dedicated to this heritage.

It is noteworthy that the Moriscos were Muslims who remained in Andalusia after its fall and were forced to convert to Christianity.
