Siham Abdulbaqi Chairs Meeting of History Department Faculty
Dr. Siham Abdulbaqi, Chair of the History and Archaeology Department in the College of Arts and Humanities at the Islamic University of Minnesota, Main Center, held a meeting with the department's faculty members on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
The meeting discussed preparations for the start of the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025 at the History Department across its three levels (Bachelor's - Master's - Doctorate).
Dr. Abdulbaqi emphasized the importance of diversifying assessment methods to measure students' academic achievement while taking into consideration their well-being. She also addressed the issue of curricula according to the department's new regulations after changing its name from the Department of History and Islamic Civilization to the Department of History and Archaeology. Additionally, she discussed a proposal to hold a scientific symposium to activate scientific activities within the department.
Dr. Siham Abdulbaqi urged faculty members to encourage students to join the History and Archaeology Department by highlighting the diverse fields that graduates can pursue after graduation, showcasing the university's distinguished academic and scientific level, and pointing to the international recognition received from several universities and academic institutions. This aims to instill confidence in students in the department and the university in general, and to motivate them to continue their studies.
During the meeting, the Head of the Department spoke about the mechanism for supervising scientific dissertations, the method of selecting supervisors, and the selection criteria, ensuring transparency and equal opportunities for faculty members.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Siham expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the University President, Prof. Walid Al-Munisi, the Vice President and Head of the Main Center, Dr. Omar Al-Maqrami, the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Ismail Hamed, the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammed Tawfiq, and the faculty members in the department.
