Exceptional Introductory Lecture

As part of its efforts to enhance cultural communication and academic cooperation, the Latin American Studies Unit at the Islamic University of Minnesota organized an exceptional introductory lecture on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The session was led by Dr. Ali Al-Shubal and his deputy, Dr. Noor Saad, with the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Tawfiq Abdulrahim, Deputy Director of the Academic Studies Center.

The lecture covered three main topics: a historical overview of the unit, a geographical introduction, and its objectives. Dr. Noor Saad opened the lecture with a welcoming speech, highlighting the importance of discussing the historical, cultural, and political aspects that shape Latin America, as well as the contemporary challenges faced by countries in the region.

Dr. Noor expressed her pride in this activity, emphasizing the significance of delving into the study of this region rich in history and cultural diversity. She also welcomed several academic figures, including His Excellency Dr. Walid Al-Menisi, President of the University, His Excellency Dr. Omar Al-Maqrami, Vice President of the University, and His Excellency Dr. Zainab Basyuni, Vice Provost of the University.

The lecture included diverse topics focusing on the historical, cultural, and political aspects of Latin America, along with current challenges and opportunities for enhancing research collaboration. The event witnessed broad attendance from academics and researchers from both Arab and Western countries, whose contributions enriched the discussion and fostered mutual understanding.

Notable participants included Dr. Palmira Ubinas, President of the Association of Spanish-speaking Writers in the United States, Dr. Nasreen Abdulhamid from Al-Azhar University in Egypt, and Dr. Samara Al-Azmat from Jadara University in Jordan, along with several academics from the Islamic University.

The lecture concluded with participants emphasizing the importance of continuing such initiatives that reflect the university's commitment to building bridges of communication between cultures and promoting scientific research and academic collaboration at both local and international levels.
