Appointment of Dr. Yasser Al-Malek as Head of Computer Science Department
Minnesota, USA - The Islamic University of Minnesota, under the leadership of the university's vice president, has announced the appointment of Dr. Yasser Al-Malek Ahmed Suleiman as the new head of the Computer Science Department in the College of Computers and Information Technology, effective Sunday, November 3, 2024. This appointment follows Dr. Diyaa Al-Haq Issa Hamid.
Dr. Yasser, born in 1981, holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science with honors from Omdurman Islamic University (October 2014). He also earned a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Al-Ribat National University (2012), as well as a Professional Master’s degree with honors from Newcastle University in the United States (2012). He completed his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with honors from the Open University of Sudan (2010) and a diploma from the University of Science and Technology with a very good grade (2004).
Currently, Dr. Yasser serves as an Assistant Professor at the Islamic University of Minnesota and has held several academic positions, including Assistant Professor at the Technological University in Sudan and Dean of the Information Center (2022), Assistant Professor at Bisha University in Saudi Arabia for four years, Assistant Professor at East Nile University for three years, and Assistant Professor at Al-Ribat National University for six years. Additionally, he has worked as a lecturer at British Cambridge centers for four years.
In terms of academic committees and positions, Dr. Yasser is a member of the Promotions Committee and the Deputy Head of the Management Information Systems Department at the Islamic University of Minnesota (2024). He also serves as the Dean of the Information Center at the Sudanese Technological University (2022) and is a member of the Examinations and Results Committee and the Emergency Committee at the Technological University.
It is noteworthy that the university administration awarded Dr. Diyaa Al-Haq Issa Hamid a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding contributions and significant efforts during his tenure as head of the Computer Science Department, which greatly contributed to establishing the foundations of the department and the success of the educational process.
