Meeting of College of Computer Science Council

The Council of the College of Computing and Information Technology at the Islamic University of Minnesota held a meeting chaired by the Dean of the College, Dr. Muneer Abdulbari Abdulfattah, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 9:00 PM Mecca time.
The Dean opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees, during which several important topics related to the educational process were discussed. The importance of reviewing the educational process and organizing the summer semester was emphasized to ensure smooth operations.
Members also discussed the need to update and develop the curricula for the various departments, focusing on graduate studies. Dr. Saleh Mas'ad Al-Riyashi, head of the Department of Management Information Systems, was tasked with making necessary adjustments to improve the college’s outcomes.
Regarding practical courses, the distribution of these subjects was examined to ensure a balanced approach with theoretical aspects. The Dean requested innovative strategies to support the practical side and provide the necessary resources.
Additionally, members reviewed the challenges facing faculty members, such as the lack of specializations and the difficulty of managing course schedules. The Dean requested effective solutions to improve internal communication.
As for the second summer camp, the evaluation of the first camp and the lessons learned were discussed before proposing improvements for the second camp to enhance activities that meet students' needs.
The meeting concluded at 11:52 PM, with members reaching recommendations and proposals that include:
- Holding regular departmental meetings to exchange opinions and challenges.
- Enhancing coordination and course schedules through communication groups.
- Allocating separate times for practical and theoretical aspects in course curricula.
- Developing academic and social activities for the summer camp.
- Conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of current curricula and suggest improvements.
Several faculty members attended the meeting, including Dr. Salah Alawi Al-Sharafi, the College's Vice Dean, Dr. Yaser Al-Malek, Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Hani Al-Hobi, Vice Head of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department, among others.
