Meeting of College of Computer Science Council

The College of Computer Science at the Islamic University of Minnesota held a regular meeting on Thursday, May 8, 2025, chaired by Dr. Muneer Abdulbari, the Dean of the college, at 9:30 PM Mecca time.
The Dean opened the meeting by welcoming the council members and expressing his appreciation for their efforts in serving the college, especially in preparation for the summer semester. The council discussed preparations for the final exams of the summer semester, emphasizing the importance of department heads in overseeing exam preparation and thanking Dr. Mohammed Habeeb Al-Samkari, the head of the exam committee, for his efforts.
The discussions also addressed the evaluation of master's courses, confirming that some courses will rely on assessments and research instead of exams. It was noted that it is essential to clarify courses that involve projects or alternative assessments, as well as the necessity for department heads to attend exams.
Regarding the first semester of the upcoming academic year, the attendees discussed preparing class schedules and identifying practical courses, ensuring a fair distribution of subjects among faculty members. It was suggested to send an electronic link for the preliminary selection of courses and their timings.
A committee was formed to prepare the university textbook, chaired by Dr. Yaser Al-Malek Ahmed Sulaiman, with clearly defined tasks including starting the textbook preparation, organizing meetings, and proposing course descriptions. It was agreed to update the "Fundamentals of Computer Science" course to "Fundamentals of Information Technology."
The meeting emphasized the importance of teamwork and coordination in preparing schedules, discussing the addition of courses related to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The Dean concluded the meeting by thanking the members for their contributions, stressing the importance of submitting recommendations to the university administration, and agreeing on the possibility of holding a follow-up meeting to monitor implementation.
Attending the meeting were several members, including Dr. Salah Alawi Al-Sharafi, Head of the Networks and Cybersecurity Department, Dr. Yaser Al-Malek Ahmed Sulaiman, Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Hani Al-Hobi, Deputy Head of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department, and Ms. Hanadi Abdullah, Administrative Affairs Officer.
