College of Computer Science Holds Regular Council Meeting

The Council of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at the Islamic University of Minnesota held its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, chaired by Dr. Muneer Abdulbari Abdulfattah, the dean of the college, at 9:00 PM Mecca time.

The dean opened the session with a welcoming speech, congratulating everyone on the beginning of the new semester and emphasizing the importance of intensifying efforts to ensure an organized academic start. He also congratulated Dr. Bushra Abrar on her appointment as the head of the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, affirming that this selection reflects the college's confidence in her leadership abilities.

The meeting focused on several topics, starting with the readiness of the academic departments for the first semester. Department heads presented their reports on their preparedness, confirming the completion of course schedules. It was also confirmed that the graduate program schedules (PhD) would be completed upon receiving the names of students from the relevant authorities.

The second topic addressed was the evaluation of the performance of the deputy department heads. Attendees discussed the feedback from department heads regarding their performance, emphasizing the importance of effective coordination and continuous communication. Recommendations were made to activate motivation and monitoring tools and to appoint alternatives if performance issues persist.

The third topic involved reviewing the performance of committee chairs. The council examined reports from the schedule, examination, and curriculum committees, thanking Dr. Saleh Al-Riyashi for his outstanding efforts in chairing the schedule committee. A plan was adopted to restructure the committees to enhance their effectiveness, with Dr. Bushra Abrar appointed as the head of the examination committee and Dr. Saleh Al-Riyashi as the head of the schedule committee.

The fourth topic discussed was the preparation of the university textbook, with a decision made to hold a special session next week to discuss and approve the plan. The fifth topic involved the proposal for the student academic forum, which aims to develop academic student activities and organize workshops. The proposal was officially approved.

Regarding the second technical camp, it was approved to be held at the end of next week, consisting of four specialized workshops aimed at all university students and interested individuals from outside the university. This camp is considered the first official event under the college forum.

The meeting concluded with an open floor for comments and inquiries, where department heads discussed various questions related to academic descriptions, schedules, and inter-departmental coordination. The college vice dean was tasked with preparing to establish a specialized training center to support the technical and research skills of faculty members and students.

The meeting resulted in several key recommendations, including:

1. Approving new appointments related to the committees.

2. Implementing the second technical camp.

3. Forming a supervisory committee to manage the forum.

4. Inviting the university textbook committee to hold a special meeting.

5. Continuing to monitor the performance of deputy department heads.

6. Submitting a memorandum to senior management to activate incentives from training course revenues.

7. Tasking the college vice dean with preparing a proposal for establishing a specialized training center for the college.
