Computer Department Council Holds Its Regular Meeting
The Council of the Computer Science Department at the College of Computing and Information Technology, Islamic University of Minnesota (Main Center), held its regular meeting on Monday evening, December 8, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. (Makkah Time), chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Yasser Al-Malik, with the participation of faculty members of the department and representatives of the college’s administrative affairs. The meeting was held as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of the educational process and improve learning outcomes.
At the opening of the meeting, the Head of the Department welcomed the attendees and commended the joining of new faculty members, emphasizing that the coming phase requires greater cooperation and integrated efforts to build an advanced educational environment that meets the requirements of the Computer Science discipline and achieves high academic performance for students.
The council reviewed the progress of the educational process during the current academic semester, highlighting key challenges faced by faculty members, particularly newly appointed staff. The meeting also followed up on the implementation of academic plans related to curricula, course requirements, and assessment and examination mechanisms.
The discussion addressed challenges related to the use of the electronic portal, with several proposals presented to enhance its development in order to improve user experience and facilitate access to academic services. Participants also praised the support provided by various administrative units in promoting institutional integration.
Attendees stressed the importance of strengthening the practical component in application-based courses due to its direct impact on reinforcing theoretical concepts and developing students’ technical skills. The possibility of redistributing course hours to achieve a better balance between theoretical and practical aspects was also discussed.
The council further discussed mechanisms for compensating missed lectures in the event of a faculty member’s absence due to unforeseen circumstances, emphasizing the need for prior notification to the department or official group, the identification of appropriate alternatives when necessary, and allowing sufficient time for coordination to ensure continuity of the educational process.
In the same context, plans to activate maintenance workshops and technical laboratories were reviewed, along with organizing specialized training courses and workshops aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills and preparing them for labor market requirements.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Department praised the participants’ efforts and positive engagement, affirming that the Computer Science Department continues to move steadily toward developing its academic programs and enhancing the quality of its educational outcomes in line with future aspirations.
