Council of College of Educational Sciences Holds Its Regular Meeting
The Council of the College of Educational Sciences at the Islamic University of Minnesota – Main Center held its regular meeting on Sunday evening, December 21, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. Mecca time, under the chairmanship of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Abdulnabi, and in the presence of a number of academic and administrative leaders.
The meeting was convened as part of ongoing efforts to monitor the progress of the educational process and to discuss a range of academic and administrative issues related to faculty members, students, and the College’s journal. The Council reviewed the current state of academic work within the College, particularly with regard to the conduct of lectures, academic assignments, and matters related to the College journal.
During the meeting, the Dean emphasized the importance of full commitment to using the electronic portal in all academic and administrative activities, noting that the College administration will provide explanatory visual materials when needed to facilitate procedures and clarify work mechanisms.
In another agenda item, the Council discussed the mechanism for distributing academic supervision and thesis defenses across the scientific departments. The Dean stressed that the adopted criterion is equity rather than equality, taking into account differences in experience and academic workload among faculty members, in a manner that ensures smooth workflow and institutional balance.
The meeting also addressed delays in the disbursement of financial entitlements for department heads, supervisors, and examiners. The Dean instructed Dr. Nourhan Ibrahim to coordinate with department heads to prepare an official memorandum outlining the required needs, after review and approval, in preparation for submitting it to the senior administration, represented by the University Vice President and Head of the Main Campus, Dr. Omar Al-Maqrami.
This approach received support from several Council members, including Dr. Talaat Al-Dardir, Associate Professor Dr. Heba Abu Ayadeh, Dr. Doaa Qattanani, and Dr. Mahrous Suleiman, who emphasized the importance of following up on this matter to safeguard the rights of faculty members.
With regard to student-related issues, the Council discussed challenges faced by faculty members in dealing with students. The Dean underscored the need for flexibility in interaction with students and advised against requiring microphone use for class participation, while allowing alternative forms of participation in consideration of varying circumstances, particularly those related to female students.
The Council also reviewed preparations for the publication of the second issue of the Journal of the College of Educational Sciences. The Dean clarified that no publication fees will be required at this stage, as the journal has not yet obtained an international serial number. He noted that coordination with specialists will take place through the journal’s group, in addition to preparing an official announcement to introduce the journal and its academic objectives.
For her part, Dr. Nourhan Ibrahim affirmed that the University continues its efforts to expand and to follow up on the affairs of all colleges, and to disburse financial entitlements according to available resources, while striving to overcome administrative and financial challenges.
The meeting concluded with several key outcomes, most notably reaffirming the adoption of the electronic portal in academic and administrative work, approving the principle of equity in the distribution of supervision and defenses, proceeding with the preparation of an official memorandum regarding financial entitlements and submitting it to the senior administration, enhancing flexibility in faculty members’ dealings with students, and continuing procedures for issuing the second issue of the College journal without publication fees at the present time.
