College of Media Holds Mini-Meeting
Professor Abdulsalam Al-Wahati, Dean of the College of Media, held a meeting with the college's mini-council immediately after the university's decision to appoint him as Dean of the College. The meeting was held on Monday, July 1, 2024, to discuss a number of topics that would enhance the educational process in the college.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Abdul Salam Al-Wahati expressed his gratitude to Professor Walid bin Idris Al-Munisi, President of the University, and Dr. Omar Al-Maqrami, Vice President of the University and Head of the Main Center, for their trust in appointing him as Dean of the College of Media, and for appointing Professor Hanan Sobhi Obaid and Associate Professor Dr. Badia Abdulqader as Vice Deans. He also praised the efforts made by Professor Abdulkarim Al-Wazan, the former Dean of the College.
The meeting, which was held online, discussed preparations for the start of the academic year, ensuring that gaps in the lecture schedule are filled, redistributing the supervising professors for Master's and PhD students, taking into account the participation of two supervisors in most scientific dissertations, and addressing the problem of internet service interruption during lectures for some professors in some countries. The solution was to have backup professors in case one of them apologizes for any reason beyond their control, provided that the "PowerPoint" lecture is delivered to the backup professor before the scheduled time.
Al-Wahati said that with God's help, we will strive to maximize the college's financial resources through a number of plans with the support of the university's senior management, including the establishment of a training center, launching professional diplomas, holding scientific conferences, and other future programs with the participation of professors, which will benefit all professors, the college, and the university financially.
In the meeting, Professor Hanan Sobhi spoke about the importance of developing programs and curricula in coordination with the university administration, calling for the appointment of new professors in the field of media to cover the shortage in some specializations. She indicated that she is closely following the progress of Master's and PhD students and the reports of their supervisors, and issuing letters to the relevant authorities to facilitate their research tasks.
Associate Professor Dr. Badia Abdulqader pointed out in her speech during the meeting the need to update the data of the College of Media on the university's website, and to provide those responsible for the website with the necessary information about the college and its new professors. She also stressed the importance of appointing a Public Relations Director and the tasks of the Dean's Office; to communicate, coordinate, and complete correspondence with the relevant departments and units of the university, explaining that it is very important to ensure the stability of the lecture schedule, especially in the first weeks of study, and to address any shortage that occurs.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies, Head of the Graduate Studies Department, Prof. Hanan Sobhi Obaid, and the Vice Dean for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Head of the Bachelor's Stage Department, Associate Professor Dr. Badia Abdulqader.
