Thursday, July 11, 2024

The faculty members of the Department of Islamic Economics at the College of Economics and Business Administration at the Islamic University of Minnesota, main center, held a meeting headed by Dr. Hiyam Al-Zaabi, Head of the Department, on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Dr. Hiyam opened the meeting by welcoming the attending professors and congratulating them on the occasion of the new academic year 2024/2025, before addressing the issues included in the meeting plan, most notably confirming the department's readiness to receive the new semester, explaining the teaching mechanism in the department (especially for new professors), and emphasizing the necessity of teaching in classical Arabic (especially at the master's level), and ensuring that lectures are delivered on time; postponing lectures should only occur in case of an emergency, with the department head being notified in advance and a makeup time being scheduled within the same week.

The Head of the Department called on the professors assigned to teach the courses to propose modern curricula for these courses, and urged them to communicate with students and attract them to the Islamic Economics specialization, to adhere to the lecture time (59 minutes), and to ensure the presentation of the material during the lecture.

It was agreed that the supervision and discussion of university dissertations will be assigned to active professors in the department (whether by teaching, attending meetings, or participating in college activities). It was also agreed to implement the requirements for changing the name of the department and modifying the necessary plans, starting from next week, through holding meetings and working within a team consisting of the Department Council and the Curriculum Committee in the department.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Hiyam invited the faculty members in the Department of Islamic Economics to contribute to publishing research in the second issue of the (Journal of the College of Economics and Business Administration), before opening the door to proposals from faculty members, some of whom presented a number of proposals that the Head of the Department pledged to take into consideration. The meeting concluded with the professors expressing their thanks to Dr. Hiyam Al-Zaabi for holding the meeting and for thanking them for responding to her invitation to hold the meeting.
