Department of Economics and Islamic Banking Holds Preparatory Meeting

As part of its preparations for the start of the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, the Department of Economics and Islamic Banking, affiliated with the College of Economics and Business Administration at the Islamic University of Minnesota – Main Center, held a preparatory meeting on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, under the chairmanship of Dr. Zaid Nawaf Al-Dwairi, Head of the Department, with the participation of all faculty members. The meeting was held in a positive and professional atmosphere reflecting the department’s commitment to academic excellence and continuous development.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Dwairi welcomed the faculty members and congratulated them on the start of the new semester, expressing his appreciation for their dedication and academic contributions in previous terms. He also extended his sincere thanks to Dr. Hiyam Al-Zoubi for her valuable efforts and achievements during her previous tenure as Head of the Department, which significantly contributed to its academic and administrative advancement.

Dr. Al-Dwairi emphasized that the educational process is progressing according to the plans approved in the pre-semester meeting, expressing his satisfaction with the commitment of faculty members, the enthusiasm of students, and the continuous support of the College Deanship.

The meeting addressed several key topics, including strengthening the department’s mission in the field of economics and Islamic banking, integrating academic learning with practical application, and enhancing students’ skills to prepare them for the job market. Faculty members also reaffirmed the importance of adhering to the approved class schedules and maintaining regular attendance, with any modifications permitted only when absolutely necessary to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of courses.

Discussions also covered the organization of coursework, examination procedures, grading policies, and compliance with the university’s official assessment system. The department stressed the need to provide technical support for faculty members in using the academic portal and the Zoom platform, in order to strengthen the quality of digital learning outputs.

The meeting further highlighted the importance of maintaining consistent and professional communication with students through official channels of the college and department, ensuring timely responses to student inquiries, and considering the specific requirements of both undergraduate and graduate programs to maintain academic integration and program quality.

Among the developmental proposals discussed were initiatives to enhance professional training for faculty and students, update curricula and study plans to align with rapid economic and technological changes, and encourage active participation in research and publication through the Journal of Economics and Business Administration issued by the university.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Zaid Nawaf Al-Dwairi praised the spirit of cooperation and professionalism demonstrated by the participants, reaffirming that the department is moving forward with determination toward enhancing the quality of education and supporting academic development, in pursuit of a more distinguished and promising future for its students and faculty members.
