Dean of College of Islamic Studies Emphasizes Need to Improve Quality of Theses
Doctor Abdulrazzaq Al-Bakri, Dean of the College of Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota, stressed the importance of enhancing the quality of theses within the college through regular oversight of thesis supervision. He noted that the administration has observations regarding the quality of these theses and emphasized the need for department heads to monitor the supervision process, along with encouraging supervisors to work diligently with students to improve their theses.
This statement came during a meeting of the College of Islamic Studies Council, chaired by Dr. Al-Bakri on Friday, November 8, 2024, corresponding to 6 Jumada al-Awwal 1446 AH. The meeting was dedicated to discussing preparations for the upcoming second semester. The dean assessed the level of readiness by addressing topics related to the elements of the educational process and providing necessary instructions.
The dean also addressed the need for department heads to deliver complete curricula to faculty members and stressed the importance of adhering to the curricula approved by the curriculum committee. He highlighted the necessity of monitoring students and showing concern for their well-being to prevent feelings of despair due to neglect.
He reminded faculty members of the importance of attending lectures and coordinating with the administrative staff, urging them to notify the department head in advance if they need to be absent. He stated that recording missed lectures would only be permitted in exceptional circumstances and with the personal approval of the department head. He also assigned Dr. Ghada Al-Bahnasi, the college's deputy, to oversee make-up lectures with the administrative affairs and to report back to the dean regarding this matter.
The dean called on faculty members to avoid discussing partisan or political topics and expressed his intention to hold a special meeting for faculty members as well as another meeting for students in preparation for the second semester. He encouraged department heads to hold meetings with faculty members and students in their respective departments.
The dean announced the opening of a new undergraduate program in the Department of Quranic Studies and its Sciences, commending the effective oversight provided by Dr. Islam Abdul Hamid, the head of the department.
At the end of the meeting, the dean allowed department heads to speak, and they all affirmed that everything is in order and that the departments are fully prepared for the start of the second semester.
