Al-Bakri Emphasizes Importance of Commitment to Educational Process
Doctor Abdulrazzaq Al-Bakri, Dean of the Islamic Studies College at the Islamic University of Minnesota, confirmed that a daily report is submitted to him by the administrative affairs officer regarding all matters related to the educational process. This statement was made during his meeting with faculty members on Sunday, November 11, 2024.
In this meeting, the dean stressed a number of guidelines that faculty members should adhere to during the educational process, including the necessity of attending classes and not missing them except in emergencies. In the case of absence, the faculty member must inform the course assistant or the department secretary and provide an official excuse, as well as set a date for a makeup lecture.
Dr. Al-Bakri also emphasized the importance of adhering to the curriculum, explaining that while faculty may expand on certain topics, they should alert students to the significance of any additional content if they intend to include it in the exam. Regarding assessments, the dean urged faculty members to prepare midterm exams in advance to avoid potential pressure, stressing that the exams should be of intermediate difficulty to accommodate all students.
Furthermore, the dean stated that political parties and ideological movements should not be introduced into lectures, noting that he personally applies these guidelines to himself as he teaches a course in the Department of Quran and Its Sciences. He also highlighted the importance of supervising academic theses, stressing that students require a supervisor to guide them through the proper steps of writing their thesis, warning that this is an ethical obligation for the supervisor.
At the end of the meeting, the dean opened the floor for faculty members to ask questions and concluded the meeting at 10:30 PM.
The meeting was attended by all faculty members, as well as Ms. Anisa Ahmed Othman Al-Zekri, the administrative affairs officer for the College of Islamic Studies.
