Prophetic Sunnah Department Launches Project to Author Academic Textbooks, Emphasizes Student Support
The Department of Prophetic Sunnah and Its Sciences at the College of Islamic Studies, University of Minnesota (Main Center), held its first meeting chaired by the Head of the Department, Dr. Majed bin Obaid Al-Salmi, and attended by faculty members. The meeting discussed ambitious plans focused on providing academic and linguistic support to students, particularly non-Arabic speakers, and encouraging active participation through a stimulating learning environment.
During the meeting, the department also announced the launch of a major project to author specialized university textbooks covering the curricula for the Master's and PhD programs, which comprise 23 courses. Dr. Al-Salmi presented his vision for the project, describing it as "a righteous, enduring work," and encouraged faculty members to begin writing immediately.
The Department Head emphasized global ambitions for the department, stating, "The Department of Prophetic Sunnah and Its Sciences must lead globally; second place is not befitting for it," underscoring the need to leverage the university's support to achieve this goal.
In a separate context, the Department Head held a meeting with postgraduate students to listen to their challenges. They discussed issues related to the academic recognition of degrees, with Dr. Al-Salmi clarifying that the strength of a degree is measured by the quality of the student's scientific research. They also reviewed lecture schedules and duration, proposing practical solutions such as following lectures via mobile phone and utilizing recordings, and agreed on the possibility of holding additional meetings to enhance scientific interaction.
