Deanship of Graduate Studies Holds Doctoral Dissertation Defense on Jurisprudential Rules
The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center organized a doctoral dissertation defense in the Department of Jurisprudence and its Fundamentals at the College of Sharia and Law. The dissertation was titled: “Jurisprudential Rules Related to Preventing Harm and Their Contemporary Applications in Fetal and Pediatric Medicine: A Jurisprudential Medical Study.” This initiative reflects the university’s efforts to promote scientific research and connect Islamic studies with contemporary medical issues.
The dissertation was presented by researcher Sayed Saleh Shehab, who explored jurisprudential rules related to preventing harm, highlighting their practical applications in fetal and pediatric medicine. The study aimed to clarify the Sharia-based frameworks governing modern medical practices and to balance the objectives of Islamic law with the demands of contemporary medical realities.
The defense committee comprised Professor Dr. Muzahem Tareq Al-Mustafa, Dean of the College of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University of Minnesota, serving as supervisor and rapporteur; Associate Professor Dr. Salah Faraj, Head of the Department of Jurisprudence and its Fundamentals, as internal examiner; and Associate Professor Dr. Jehan Al-Taher Mohammed, faculty member at the university, as external examiner.
The defense took place on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. (Makkah time) via Zoom, attended by a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and professionals interested in jurisprudential and medical studies. The event reflected the university’s commitment to supporting interdisciplinary research and fostering rigorous scholarly inquiry into emerging issues.
