Graduate Studies Deanship Holds Scientific Seminar to Discuss PhD Research Proposals in Law

The Deanship of Graduate Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota (Main Center), represented by the College of Sharia and Law - Department of Law, organized a scientific seminar on Saturday evening, December 6, 2025, via the Zoom platform, to discuss two PhD research proposals, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics and legal specialists.

The seminar first addressed the research proposal presented by PhD researcher Omar Ibrahim Youssef, entitled “Legal Challenges of Cross-Border E-Commerce in Arab Countries: Towards the Development of Unified Arab Legislation.” The study highlighted the key legal challenges facing cross-border e-commerce within the Arab region and emphasized the importance of establishing a unified Arab legislative framework to enhance legal and economic integration.

The seminar also discussed the research proposal submitted by researcher Atheer Al-Harthi, entitled “The Legitimacy of Evidence Derived from Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Criminal Procedures.” The proposal examined emerging legal challenges posed by modern technologies and underscored the necessity for criminal legislation to keep pace with technological advancements in order to ensure justice and safeguard rights.

The discussion was conducted by a specialized academic committee chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Mohammed Shoaib Abdulmaqsood, Head of the Department of Law, with the membership of Dr. Hiba Ramadan, Dr. Mohammed Rashed, Dr. Ahmed Al-Barrak, and Dr. Ameer Khalifa. The committee members provided valuable academic feedback and research guidance that enriched the discussions and contributed to the development of the research proposals.

The significance of this seminar lies in its timing, as it comes amid rapid digital transformations that require greater legislative coordination and integration among Arab countries to address shared challenges related to e-commerce and artificial intelligence. Such efforts contribute to strengthening Arab legal cooperation and supporting pathways toward development and stability.

This seminar forms part of the Deanship of Graduate Studies’ ongoing efforts to promote rigorous scientific research, encourage studies that address contemporary Arab issues, and contribute scholarly and legislative solutions that serve the Arab reality and future aspirations.
