Graduate Studies Deanship Hosts Public Defense of PhD Dissertation
 
The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Main Center of the Islamic University of Minnesota organized, on Friday evening, March 6, 2026, a public defense of the PhD dissertation submitted by researcher Mohammed Omar Ahmed via the Zoom platform, with the participation of a specialized academic committee and a number of scholars and researchers.
The dissertation was titled “Null Reasoning and Its Impact on Contemporary Financial Transactions: A Foundational Jurisprudential Study” within the field of Islamic Jurisprudence and Usul at the College of Sharia and Law. The study addressed the issue of null reasoning in Islamic jurisprudence and examined its effect on deriving rulings related to contemporary financial transactions, providing a foundational analysis based on established jurisprudential and usul principles.
The defense committee consisted of Dr. Salah Faraj, Head of the Department of Jurisprudence and Usul at the Islamic University of Minnesota (Chair), Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Wardi (Supervisor), Dr. Abdulsadeq Busharit (Internal Examiner), and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mukhtar (External Examiner). The session featured an in-depth scholarly discussion, during which committee members offered precise observations and methodological insights that enriched the dissertation and enhanced its academic value.
The session was held at 11:00 PM Mecca time via Zoom, reflecting the University’s commitment to supporting rigorous scientific research in Islamic studies and addressing contemporary jurisprudential issues in ways that serve society and advance specialized knowledge.
