Workshop on Islamic Wars in Ramadan

The Research and Studies Center at the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center, organized on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, a scientific workshop titled: "Islamic Wars and Expeditions in Ramadan: A Methodical Historical Study of Fortress Assaults and Victorious Crossings," held via the Zoom platform, with wide participation from students and interested individuals both inside and outside the university.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Shaimaa Khattab, Director of the Research and Studies Center and Associate Professor of Modern History and International Relations, who highlighted the historical and strategic dimensions of Islamic wars and battles that took place during Ramadan, emphasizing their civilizational and spiritual significance in shaping the contours of Islamic civilization throughout the ages.
The workshop covered several key topics, including the role of Islamic wars in establishing a golden era that combined knowledge and faith, the ethical framework exemplified by Muslims on the battlefield, and illustrative examples of heroic battles with profound spiritual lessons. Strategic concepts such as “war as a deception” and the principle of consultation (shura) in decision-making were also discussed as fundamental pillars of Islamic military thought.
The workshop further highlighted educational and intellectual objectives, including the idea that willpower creates miracles, unity as the true source of strength, drawing lessons from Islamic history to face contemporary challenges, and emphasizing the role of wise leadership and sincerity in achieving victories and building civilizations. Fasting was also emphasized as a value that strengthens willpower, patience, and factors leading to success.
Dr. Siham Abdulbaqi moderated the session, guiding the discussion and enriching the scientific dialogue, providing participants with an active space to engage with the workshop’s themes.
The workshop targeted students and interested individuals as part of the Research and Studies Center’s efforts to enhance historical and intellectual awareness, connect Islamic heritage to real-world issues, and draw civilizational lessons for building a more knowledgeable and resilient future. This workshop is part of a series of scientific events organized by the center, reaffirming its role in supporting research, instilling intellectual values, and promoting civilizational awareness within academic circles.
