First Issue of Sharia and Law Journal is Released

The College of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University of Minnesota has released the first issue of the peer-reviewed scientific journal (Sharia and Law Journal) on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

The issue consists of 300 pages, including 15 pages dedicated to the editorial board and advisory board lists, as well as the journal's vision, mission, goals, and areas of interest. The issue also contains a description of the language of publication, publication conditions, specifications for submitted research, guidelines for copying research, documentation standards, and the mechanism for submitting, receiving, and reviewing papers.

Regarding the research articles, the issue includes six peer-reviewed studies, preceded by a table of contents and an editorial written by the editor-in-chief. In this editorial, the importance of knowledge and its status in Islam is discussed, along with the role of scientific research in finding solutions to contemporary problems and the vital role of universities in this regard. The articles address various contemporary issues, including:

  1. The Aggravating Circumstances Changing the Description of Crime in Islamic Jurisprudence - A Comparative Study with Positive Law by Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Wardi.
  2. The Legal Framework for Protecting Sports Rights during the Qatar 2022 World Cup in Light of Upholding National Identity  by Dr. Hamza Abdulhafeedh Mursi Barakat.
  3. The Service of the Wife to Her Husband - A Comparative Jurisprudential Study by Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hamid Al-Shaqaldi.
  4. The Adequacy of International Protection for Cultural Heritage in Light of the Russian-Ukrainian War by Dr. Hamza Abdulhafeez Mursi Barakat.
  5. Contemporary Applications of the Inheritance Principle that No Inheritance is Established by Dr. Salah Ahmed Farraj.
  6. Same-Sex Marriage - Its Rulings and Impacts by Dr. Ali Imran.

The journal describes itself as a peer-reviewed scientific publication focused on jurisprudential and legal research and studies. Its aim is to become a leader in publishing rigorous scientific research in the fields of Islamic jurisprudence, judiciary, Sharia politics, and law, and to be classified among globally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Its mission focuses on publishing outstanding scientific research that serves the Islamic community and promotes thought and creativity through rigorous scientific research adhering to international quality standards.

The editorial board consists of nine members, chaired by the Dean of the College, Dr. Mazahim Tariq Al-Mustafa, with Dr. Asma Fakhri Suwaileh as the managing editor and Dr. Omar Mohammed Jabbaji as the editorial secretary, in addition to six other members. The journal also has an advisory board composed of seven scholars.

It is noteworthy that this issue follows the release of the first issue of the (Islamic Studies Journal) and the first issue of the (Economics and Business Administration Journal). Further issues from other colleges are expected, reflecting the university administration's special attention to scientific research.
