Conclusion of 38th International Conference of Muslims in Latin America and Caribbean

The 38th International Conference of Muslims in Latin America and the Caribbean concluded in São Paulo, Brazil, with wide participation from religious and scholarly leaders from various countries, alongside a high-level official presence. Representing the Islamic University of Minnesota at this major international forum, Professor Waleed bin Idrees Al-Meneesi actively contributed to the scientific and advocacy activities of the conference.

Professor Al-Meneesi arrived in São Paulo on Friday, November 21, 2025, opening his program by delivering the Friday sermon at the Islamic Center in the Vila Cahon area, in the presence of a large gathering of the Muslim community. In his sermon, he addressed several faith-based and educational issues relevant to Muslims living in diaspora, emphasizing the importance of adhering to Islamic values and building religious identity for future generations amid contemporary cultural and intellectual challenges.

Later that evening, Professor Al-Maneesi participated in the conference’s opening ceremony, delivering the speech on behalf of the delegations. The ceremony was attended by prominent religious and official figures, including representatives from the Saudi Ministry of Awqaf, ministers and muftis from Arab countries, and a large number of imams and scholars from Brazil and Latin American countries. His speech highlighted the unity of the Muslim mission across continents and the importance of institutional coordination among Islamic centers worldwide.

The conference, in its 38th session, focused on strategic themes concerning the situation of Muslim minorities in Latin America and the Caribbean, methods to develop religious and educational work, enhancing the role of youth in preserving Islamic identity, as well as issues related to education, media, institutional work, and building partnerships with global Islamic institutions.

Professor Al-Meneesi’s participation represented a valuable contribution to the scientific and intellectual discussions, reflecting his extensive academic and advocacy expertise. It also underscored the Islamic University of Minnesota’s commitment to strengthening its international presence, building bridges of scholarly and cultural communication with Muslims worldwide, and supporting the religious and cultural stability of Muslim minorities.
