English Department Discusses Mechanisms for Dealing with Online Students

Dr. Rehab Samir, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at the College of Arts and Humanities, held a meeting attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Ismail Hamed, and members of the department council and faculty members. The meeting took place at 10:00 AM Makkah time on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The meeting was held to discuss mechanisms for dealing with online students, as part of the continuous efforts to improve the educational process. The meeting was held upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College, Dr. Ismail Hamed, and the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammed Tawfiq Abdulrahim, who recommended holding an emergency meeting for the Department of English Language and Literature to study the problems resulting from student exams for the summer semester.

The Dean and Vice Dean stressed the importance of finding mechanisms to deal with online students, especially in the field of languages, which is one of the main attractions of the university.

During the meeting, Dr. Rehab Samir proposed that the last lecture of each course be dedicated to reviewing the main points of the curriculum and to practice sample exam questions so that students are not surprised by the type of questions. The Vice Head of the Department, Dr. Khaled Al-Shahawi, emphasized that the exam is a contract between the student and the teacher, and its mechanism must be agreed upon.

The attendees agreed that the student's interest is the main interest of the university, and that the professors should treat the students as their children, and that they should all be keen on raising a generation with knowledge and good morals. They also agreed on the need to diversify the questions to avoid any problems during the exam.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Rehab Samir expressed her sincere thanks to all her colleagues in the department, starting with the Vice Head of the Department and all faculty members, for all their efforts to improve the efficiency of the educational process. She also expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the Dean and Vice Dean for their continuous support, guidance, and good follow-up. She did not forget to send her greetings and appreciation to the Vice President of the University, His Excellency Dr. Omar Al-Maqrami, for his keenness to provide continuous support to the department.
